Play Minesweeper

Minesweeper is a popular and addictive game that tests your strategic thinking ability. It offers fun and engaging gameplay for players of all levels of experience. Here, you can play both the Classic Minesweeper and Infinite Minesweeper versions for freeInfinite Minesweeper is a variant of the classic game that is not limited to the traditional fixed grid of cells but can be expanded to play endlessly.

Minesweeper Variations

Minesweeper grew in popularity during the 1990s, with different game versions being launched. There are hours of enjoyment to be had exploring these two contrasting variations.

Classic Minesweeper

This traditional game version presents the player with a fixed grid of smaller grey cells. Each cell conceals a mine or a number that reveals how many adjacent cells contain a mine. There are three levels of difficulty to choose from: Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert. The increased size of the grid and the number of mines reflect the increase in game difficulty.

Infinite Minesweeper

As the name of this variation suggests, the play grid allows for an endless expansion of the game as new territory is revealed. Opening the grid and discovering free Minesweeper cells earns the player points, added to the ‘Score’ in the top right-hand corner. There are five different difficulty levels, starting from Beginner and moving up to Deathmatch. The ‘High Score’ shows the best achievement in the game at that level, and this can be reset in ‘Settings’ as required.

Difference Between Infinite and Classic

The main differences between these two variations are the nature of the game board and how success in the game is measured. With Classic Minesweeper, the grid has a fixed shape and size depending on the difficulty level selected (for example, Beginner is an 8x8 grid). In contrast, free Infinite Minesweeper has a minefield that can expand without limit, requiring a fluid and responsive strategy that reflects the changing territory.

Success in the Classic game is achieved by safely revealing the entire fixed grid, which can be measured by the time taken on the timer. With Infinite Minesweeper, scoring while avoiding mines and achieving high scores is the measure of achievement.

Game Objective

The aim of Minesweeper is, in the shortest possible time, to reveal all cells on the grid without clicking and activating a mine.
